"Music is a stenography of feelings"

— Lew Tołstoj

Every year during the two holiday months, we organize a course for our guests on accelerated transcription of emotions.

The Summer Jazz Academy is a festival during which the most outstanding representatives of jazz from Poland and abroad perform on the Wytwórnia stage. One of the goals of the Academy is to recall the work of outstanding composers, creators of the Polish school of jazz.

We do not copy the works of composers, but give them new life; we want to prove that the compositions of artists who have written themselves in gold in the encyclopedia of the world jazz scene can still sound current, and their message is timeless.

During their SJA—polish—LAJ concerts we find that jazz moves, awakens memories, makes us dance(really!), seduces, soothes, stimulates, liberates, energizes, moves, takes us over. Jazz makes summer evenings at the Wytwórnia club truly special.

During the Summer Jazz Academy, the halls at Łąkowa 29, which years ago served filmmakers, become a place where improvisation reigns. Our festival proves that jazz is not for the chosen few. It’s music for everyone who loves rhythm, as not only our guests, but also the participants of the International Jazz Platform will find out. LAJ provides an opportunity for the younger generation to collaborate with professional musicians. Together they will lean into the repertoire of legends.

Thanks to the Summer Jazz Academy, we regain faith – in the power of sound, the possibility of restoring the memory of the greats of Polish jazz, and faith in Lodz, which is by no means a sad, working-class city, but a place where jazz has a permanent place both in the Wytwórnia club and in the hearts of music lovers.
